Fall 2027 cycle · AADSAS closes February 5, 2027. Is it too late to apply?

Dental School Admissions for Canadian Applicants

Applying to dental school from Canada works differently from the US. Canada has 10 dental schools, each with its own application, DAT rules and interview format, and most give priority to residents of their province. That is why many Canadians apply to US schools through ADEA AADSAS as well. This page compares all 10 schools and both DATs.

Key takeaways

  • Canada has 10 dental schools, and each runs its own admissions. Three of them (UBC, Toronto, Dalhousie) also take ADEA AADSAS.
  • Most Canadian schools want the Canadian DAT. McGill and Montréal do not require the DAT this cycle.
  • The Canadian DAT has no organic chemistry or QR and is scored 1–30. The US DAT is scored 200–600.
  • Many schools strongly prefer in-province applicants, so most Canadians also apply to US schools.

Applying to US dental schools from Canada

  • One application. Canadians apply through ADEA AADSAS, the same system US applicants use.
  • Transcripts. Transcripts from English-language Canadian universities are treated like US transcripts. Transcripts from French-language universities need a WES or ECE evaluation.
  • DAT. Most US schools want the US DAT. Some accept the Canadian DAT, and that list changes, so check each school.
  • Money. Some US schools limit financial aid to US citizens and permanent residents. Check the cost and aid page of every school on your list.

“The personal statement express was a lifesaver!!! I wasn't even going to apply this application cycle; however, with a last minute change of plans, I found myself scrambling to get everything finished. I had just written my personal statement, and was about to submit my application, and I was able to get feedback just a few hours after I sent it. The advice was very thorough and helpful! I actually talked with a dental school admissions committee on the phone to receive application feedback, and they said I had one of the best personal statements they had ever seen. Thank you Future Dental Prep!!!”

“I used the Personal Statement Express Overview that is offered by Future Dental Prep because I was finished with writing my personal statement, but I couldn't find the "perfect" final draft. I wanted an honest opinion from someone who didn't know me. Using this service was a wonderful experience! My assigned expert contacted me through email and thoroughly reviewed my personal statement within a day. The review included an overview of each paragraph with comments on the content, ways to improve the structure of the paper and grammatical corrections. In addition, my expert rated my paper out of 10 and wrote a summary of how the paper was put together and his thoughts on enhancement. The courteous feedback and timeliness of service was exactly what I needed to feel confident in my personal statement. It helped me to take what I wrote and make it into a strong, well-structured personal statement that I loved.”

“My experience with Future Dental Prep admissions was great. There was a great communication which allowed making the phone call appointment very easy. The phone call itself was very helpful for me. Before making the phone call, I was very unsure of where I stood regarding which schools I have a chance in being admitted, but my consultant made it very clear for me. He carefully answered all the questions I had and even allowed me to ask questions after the session. Now I feel confident regarding what school I will be applying to.”

“My personal experience with Future Dental Prep has been outstanding. My consultant was very responsive and helpful throughout the process of completing my personal statement. I would highly recommend this service to anyone wanting to craft an immaculate personal statement.”

FAQ for Canadian applicants

Do Canadian dental schools use AADSAS?

Some do. UBC takes applications through ADEA AADSAS, Toronto lets you choose its own UTDAS system or AADSAS, and Dalhousie accepts its own portal or AADSAS. Western uses OUAC, and the other schools use their own university portals.

Which Canadian dental schools do not require the DAT?

McGill removed the DAT requirement for the 2026–27 cycle, and Université de Montréal does not require it for Fall 2027. Laval uses only the PAT score from the Canadian DAT. Every other school requires the DAT.

What is the difference between the Canadian DAT and the US DAT?

The Canadian DAT has no organic chemistry and no Quantitative Reasoning section, and it is scored from 1 to 30. The US DAT includes organic chemistry and QR and has used a 200–600 scale since March 1, 2025.

Can I use the US DAT to apply to Canadian schools?

At some schools. UBC, Western and Toronto accept either the Canadian or the American DAT. Alberta does not accept the American DAT. Check each school's page before you register.

Can Canadians apply to US dental schools?

Yes. Canadians apply through ADEA AADSAS like US applicants. Transcripts from English-language Canadian universities are treated like US transcripts; French-language transcripts need a WES or ECE evaluation. Some US schools accept the Canadian DAT, but not all.
