DAT General Chemistry Tutor

General chemistry is 30 of the 100 science questions on the DAT, and there is no calculator in the science section. Students who know the concepts still lose points to slow math and long setups. A DAT general chemistry tutor teaches the concept, then the fastest way to set up and estimate each problem type under time pressure.

What DAT General Chemistry covers

  • Stoichiometry
  • Gases, liquids, solids and solutions
  • Acids and bases
  • Chemical equilibrium
  • Thermodynamics and kinetics
  • Oxidation-reduction
  • Atomic structure and periodic trends
  • Lab techniques

Where students lose points

Math without a calculator

Logs, scientific notation and unit conversions by hand. We drill estimation so you can pick the right answer without exact arithmetic.

Equilibrium and acids/bases

Many students memorize formulas without knowing when to use each one. We teach the decision first, then the formula.

Thermodynamics and kinetics

Easy to mix up. We separate them with one clear question: is this about whether it happens, or how fast?

How a DAT General Chemistry tutor works with you

  1. 1

    Concept, then setup

Each topic starts with why it works, then a step-by-step setup you repeat until it is automatic.

  2. 2

    Estimation drills

Short sets where the goal is a fast, close answer, because the DAT gives you answer choices, not a blank.

  3. 3

    Timed mini-sections

Weekly 30-question sets so speed improves along with accuracy.

“The personal statement express was a lifesaver!!! I wasn't even going to apply this application cycle; however, with a last minute change of plans, I found myself scrambling to get everything finished. I had just written my personal statement, and was about to submit my application, and I was able to get feedback just a few hours after I sent it. The advice was very thorough and helpful! I actually talked with a dental school admissions committee on the phone to receive application feedback, and they said I had one of the best personal statements they had ever seen. Thank you Future Dental Prep!!!”

“I used the Personal Statement Express Overview that is offered by Future Dental Prep because I was finished with writing my personal statement, but I couldn't find the "perfect" final draft. I wanted an honest opinion from someone who didn't know me. Using this service was a wonderful experience! My assigned expert contacted me through email and thoroughly reviewed my personal statement within a day. The review included an overview of each paragraph with comments on the content, ways to improve the structure of the paper and grammatical corrections. In addition, my expert rated my paper out of 10 and wrote a summary of how the paper was put together and his thoughts on enhancement. The courteous feedback and timeliness of service was exactly what I needed to feel confident in my personal statement. It helped me to take what I wrote and make it into a strong, well-structured personal statement that I loved.”

“My experience with Future Dental Prep admissions was great. There was a great communication which allowed making the phone call appointment very easy. The phone call itself was very helpful for me. Before making the phone call, I was very unsure of where I stood regarding which schools I have a chance in being admitted, but my consultant made it very clear for me. He carefully answered all the questions I had and even allowed me to ask questions after the session. Now I feel confident regarding what school I will be applying to.”

DAT General Chemistry tutoring FAQ

Can I use a calculator on DAT general chemistry?

No. The on-screen calculator is only available in Quantitative Reasoning. General chemistry math is designed to be done by hand, so estimation and clean setups matter.

How many general chemistry questions are on the DAT?

30 of the 100 questions in the Survey of Natural Sciences, the same number as organic chemistry.

Can I get a tutor for only one DAT section?

Yes. Many students book tutoring for one weak section and study the rest on their own. The 4-hour starter is three sessions over about two weeks and works well for one problem area; 10 hours gives you time to rebuild one subject and check progress on practice tests.
